A second UK passport is issued at the discretion of HM Passport Office (HMPO) to frequent business travellers who genuinely need to hold two valid UK passports at the same time. It comes in two sizes — a standard 36-page book or a 50-page book for those who travel most often.

Natural born or naturalised citizens of the United Kingdom who at the discretion of HM Passport Office (HMPO) are: Business travellers who need to visit countries that are in conflict or refuse entry to passports with certain stamps (e.g. Israel and Iran, Lebanon, Syria or Iraq). Frequent business travellers whose passport is often held for long visa processing, which would stop them from travelling elsewhere.

Business Introduction letter
An original letter from the applicant’s employer explaining the business need for a Second Passport. The letter must:
Be addressed to His Majesty’s Passport Office, Warehouse K, 2 Western Gateway, London, E16 1DR.
Be printed on official company letterhead.
State the applicant’s full name exactly as it appears in their passport.
Include the company’s telephone number and full address.
Include the company’s VAT number.
List at least six countries the applicant frequently travels to that require visas.
Request the issuance of a replacement Second Passport in the event the previous passport was lost, stolen, or damaged.
Be signed by the applicant’s manager or company director.
State the signatory’s full job title.
Have been issued within one month before the application is submitted.
Self-employed applicants must have the letter signed by their accountant. Please refer to the Sample Business Introduction Letter for detailed guidance.

Why would I need a second UK passport?

Which passport documents do I need to provide?
You must include the original Second Passport being renewed, a clear colour copy of the other passport's information page, and a clear colour copy of every page of the passport and of its front and back covers. If the current passport contains few or no visas or stamps, the previous passport containing visas and stamps must also be provided. HM Passport Office reserves the right to request additional documents or change its requirements at any time, so we review your packet before it is submitted.
What is the Business Introduction letter and is it required?
A Business Introduction letter is required to renew a second UK passport. It is an original letter from your employer explaining the business need for a Second Passport, printed on official company letterhead and signed by your manager or company director. Self-employed applicants must have the letter signed by their accountant.
