Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Passport Services

What documents does my child need for a UK passport?
A child's UK passport application must include the child's birth certificate showing both parents' details, copies of both parents' passports, two identical passport photos (one countersigned), and a signed Letter of Authorization. Children under 12 may also need to confirm their identity.
Who has to apply for a child's passport?
A parent or legal guardian with parental responsibility must complete and submit the application on the child's behalf — a child cannot apply alone. This includes a Letter of Authorization carrying an original signature, with the collection-person line left blank, so VisaHQ can act for you with HM Passport Office.
What is the difference between a 36-page and a 54-page child passport?
A UK child passport is available as a standard 36-page book, or a 54-page Frequent Traveller book for children who travel often and need extra visa pages. The government fee and VisaHQ's service fee both depend on which book you choose, and are shown before you order.
How fast is a child's UK passport processed?
Children's UK passport applications are handled on our 7-day service only. Expedited processing is not offered for a child's passport, because applications made on behalf of a child require additional verification and parental-consent checks that cannot be completed on an accelerated timescale. We confirm the timeline with you when you place your order.
